d-day **update**

resignation email to be sent at precisely 8 a.m.  stay tuned. most likely, juicy details to follow.

update:  this is the email I sent, although i wanted to send this:

Date: March 24, 2008

Dear Maryann,

After careful consideration, effective immediately, I must resign from 
my position as Art Director for SSS.  I wish my last 
day to be today.  I can be available on a very limited basis to help 
make the transition as smooth as possible.

I have learned quite a bit in the time I have been employed with 
SSS, and for that I am grateful. However, the time has come 
for me to move on.  Right now, I need to be able to put the best 
interest of my family first. As my work environment has changed 
completely, that is no longer possible.

The equipment and all other SSS materials will be boxed and ready to 
be picked up. Please arrange for a time to get them at your earliest 
convenience that will work for both of us.

Good morning Jessica,

I wanted to send you an email confirming receipt of your notice.  I have 2
meetings this morning, so I will give you a call this afternoon to discuss
picking up the computers, etc.

how's that for lame?  oh, well. i'm sure she will scrutinize every piece of everything that is sent back for some excuse to contact a lawyer. after all, this IS a woman who is currently threatening to sue COSTCO because they "stole her ideas".  ha ha hahahahaha~  do i sound bitter?  well, mayyyybe, a little!

there you have it.  sorry to diappoint. i will update if anything interesting transpires. for now, i'm movin' the boxes out so i can continue with my movin' on.

five days and counting

it was brought to my attention (thanks, J) that i haven't been posting as frequently as i had previously.  well, dang, life gets busy! 

actually, hubs has been home and starting work on the new studio. zzzzzip, bzzzzt, zoooot. those sounds are music to my ears as i type. they are the sounds of saws and drills and hammers...

and, then, THEN - today i started packing up the crap in my office that belongs to the crazy woman.  dang there is a lot. whatever will i do with all of this space? ha haahahahha. my schedule now is this: next week, i am still employed. i may have to take a couple of sick days so i don't lose vacation time. then the following week i have taken off. again, so i don't lose my vacation time. upon my return on the 24th, i turn in my letter and say sianara to my beloved job and manuel, my replacement.  i do not plan to "give notice" other than, this is my notice. goodbye. no two weeks. just, 'this is goodbye'.  after all, in the new "manuel", it DOES say about thirty times that we are at-will employees and may terminate or be terminated at any time with no prior notice.

and i've started on my resignation letter.  usually concerning work i am Queen of Procrastination.  but this oozes motivation for me.  how's this sound?

Dear Crazy Woman,

It is with genuine loathing that I must inform you that I am resigning from my position as Lab Animal. I have been obliged by considerations of my evolutionary and reproductive credibility to take this course of action. I have endured my time at SSS and the many freak shows in which I have been involved. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in the organization a quick upward career move to hell from their present positions.

***ETA:  for those of you who are worried that i'll be burning my bridges... this is not the letter that i plan to submit.  i do have a lovely, real, professional sounding resignation letter that is ready to go.  this is just the letter i FEEL like sending.  this has been a long time coming.  i don't plan to "burn bridges" on purpose, but i have a crazy emotional woman boss and she, well, will take this personally no matter how nice it is. and she will flip out. i could tell her that i will personally find her a replacement and work for free for six months and she would STILL take it personally.

the handbook and the countdown

this just silly. i didn't know that companies with two home based employees needed an employee handbook.  especially good is the section about harrassment and fighting.  yes, it talks about fighting in here.

also. on the cover, it proclaims:  "Employee Manuel"  -- uh.  are we getting a new coworker from mexico?

two weeks til the official "notice" is turned in.

we survived the meeting. only one of us got knocked down by the unruly dog. and we stopped to shop at kohls on the way home to celebrate.

in other news, the hubs has done laundry today. pretty dang impressive. i'll rent him out, girls. he also makes a mean grilled cheese.

tft: dreams, aspirations, and all that jazz

let me just jump right into it. if you could do anything with your life, what would it be? if you could truly follow your heart, no holds barred, what would you do? what would you be? there would be no obstacles, no financial issues holding you back. if that were the case, would you change anything from what you are doing now?

i've got a zillion things going around in my head surrounding my impending resignation from my job. i guess that's what is bringing this tft on.

who really "knows" their direction in life, and what they want to do by the ripe old age of 18 and fresh out from under mom and dad's wing? when i was a kid, i wanted to be a pilot. (along with a mommy, a racecar driver, a chef, etc...) but mostly, i dreamed of flying. i took classes and flight school in high school before i even laid eyes on an airplane in college.  but after a period of time, despite enjoying it immensely, i realized that wasn't "really" the direction i wanted to go. always being a creative type, i switched gears to attend design school.  i've been doing that since '96, and i truly love it. but now i see myself doing something that, well, would make more of a difference. in the lives of other people.  at the very least, the lives of my own children. instead of this insanity that i have going on.

in the meantime, i will enjoy my design and pursue photography... because i need to pay some of the bills... but there's something more to do, i know it!

am i the only person who feels this way?  is everyone else pefectly happy with their direction? maybe i should get this book titled "i could do anything. if i only knew what it was: how to discover what you really want and how to get it"

maybe i will.  now, tell me about YOU. what would you do if you could do anything with your life?
