way up north....

this weekend monkey girl and i are going far and away (up north). even "north-er" than "home".  just the two of us. oh we can make it if we try... sorry that just slipped out. should be a fun trip. wish me luck on the drive. i hope i don't have to sedate anybody to get there. i will be exhausted when i return. i am shooting a wedding and two newborns and will get to see lots of family. hubs will hold down the fort and hopefully be installing the flooring in the studio that was due in on WEDNESDAY. have a great weekend, all!

a long time back i was going to respond to jaime's bedroom post.  and then kim posted photos. and now jenny is posting her bedroom on her blog. but my bedroom was in no shape at that time, and in fact you could barely forge a path into the room.  i've had a lot of energy lately and have been doing  a bit of cleanup around here.   my bedroom is nowhere near as large as any of yours... but i love my space.

our room is a 'bonus room' over our garage.  it feels like it's got its own miniature wing of the house. here is the photo going up the stairs.  i'm standing in our private little hallway and to my left is our master bath. (which i did not photograph.)  the guy on the floor is "roomie", my roomba. - he is  one of my best friends. he cleans my floors while entertaining my child. 

 

i love my hardwoods. they are beautiful. but they are hard. on . the. back. i also love my furniture. we bought the bed, but hubs' uncle made the dressers for us.

as you come up the stairs, this is what you see:

 

another angle (you can see the railing a bit coming up the stairs) - and my walk-in closet is almost as large as the room itself. it is most certainly the catch-all for everything.

it's just in a cheap poster frame, but i took that photo in point panic, hawaii. i looooove it.  the yellow is textured and i just love how warm it feels in here.

i just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who commented on my TFT post. right now, i have sixteen comments. that's a new high for me!  i can't tell you how excited i get when i get an email that someone has taken the time to leave a comment. it rocks!  i really, really, REALLY (can't stress this enough) appreciate everything you have to say.  it's a treat to read them and know your opinions. so, thank, THANK you all again, and please, PLEASE keep commenting!

when country wasn't cool...

(sorry if i threw you by the song title reference. this post is not about country music. although i must say - i WAS country. when country wasn't cool. some places it still isn't.)

alternative name for this post:  creative friday.  first edition.

first, let me say this. i do NOT have the patience or the space to do the paper scrapbooking. kudos to all of you who do it.  i am in no way organized outside of this little digital world of mine. i tried, but i didn't get past the 'find the pictures' stage. my poor eight year old's baby book. it's more like a bin that i've just thrown stuff into with 'the best of intentions' to someday finish.  um, yeah.

ok, so this digital scrapbooking thing.  it's a huge boom.  and i was doing it. waaaaay before it was big.

let me explain. i'm a graphic designer. so i design things. there are tons of things that i come up with that never gets picked by a client, or maybe i'm just playing around and just LIKE something. so i put it in a folder because someday i'll use it. (ha)  i've forever (forever = since scanners and digital cameras) been taking my photos and trying to do something fun with them, to email to grandma or uncle bob...

first, i was doing stuff like this. not super impressive, but it was really, really fun. and i was creating in 8.5 x 11" size because, well, that's what paper size i printed on. this was '05.

several months ago i was surfing the 'net. i came across some places that were selling some digital scrapbooking sets. very inexpensive and very lovely. so, i bought some. and then when i was using them, i thought --- what am i DOING? i do this digital design thing for a living! i have tons of artwork at my disposal that i've created....   so i started building my own creations. with this huge digi-scrap boom, i've been inspired by lots of the stuff that's out there, with a more dimensional look, incorporating some real thingamajigs and such.  here's an example.

this is one of the black and white sets. i built a series of 'background' papers, several borders, some frames,  some icons, some ribbon... photographed some other doodads and voila!  i have fast become addicted. it's allowing me to be far more creative than my current job. i love this stuff!  and ain't she just the cutest lil' thing.  i've got a zillion coordinating sets started here on my lovely new mac.

does anyone else do digital scrapbooking?

if so, where do you get your papers and things?

if not, why not?  would you like to?  what's stopping you?

i'm going to try to figure out how to share some of my papers 'n stuff with you all if you're interested. who's interested?
